I'm sure you have seen them all over Pinterest. You have probably pinned it. Mind Jars! Bug recently celebrated her 5th birthday, one of the table decorations we used was mind jars. These also doubled as a prize for the games we played. This mind jar to the left is a Sofia the First themed mind jar from the party.
Some of the pins that we try on Pinterest are hit and miss, but I was very glad that I tried these. Anyways you can find the inspiration for our mind jars here! I used her 3 minuet recipe but needed to tweak it, since the one I made actually took 15 minuets to settle.
Here is my 5 minuet Mind Jar Recipe:
1 Cup of boiling water
1/2 cup of light corn syrup
1/2 bottle of Elmers glitter glue
1 TBS of Glitter
3 Drops of liquid dish soap (Dawn)
Mix the boiling water, light corn syrup and glue until there are no lumps. Pour mixture into you jar. Add glitter, and dish soap. Put the lid on and let it cool. Shake and Enjoy!
To get the design (completely optional) I used a white out pen to draw the outline of the flower, and then painted the inside with white acrylic paint.
Even thought these were used for a birthday party, Rose and Bug have been enjoying them in our school lessons. Rose (7) recently was working on a writing assignment, where she was was writing a Newspaper Article. She was stuck, and needed some thinking time, so we shook up our jar and as she watched the glitter fall, she was able to clear her mind, and think clearly on her assignment.
Also these can be used as a great timeout tool, as Bug (5) recently discovered. She was able to sit and watch the glitter fall to the bottom of the jar. As soon as the last bits of glitter fell to the bottom she was up and ready to play!
